North Carolina Marine Surveyors Find Speed and Ease in IR Investigation:
A thermal investigation of the 43 foot Persistence was able to pin-point the source of a persistent rattling noise: cracks in both the port and starboard torque boxes. The torque boxes were located below the waterline, where the size of the cracks size posed a threat to the seaworthiness of the vessel.Using the information from the scan, the surveyors were able to provide the yacht owner with visual documentation and accurate estimates for the cost of repairs. Repair and appraisal of vessels is easier, speedier and less destructive with the help of thermal imaging. In fact, the marine service facility was so impressed by the results of thermal scans on the yacht that they decided to recommend them as a standard component in vessel inspection.
